Royal Navy Skeleton

Royal Navy Winter Sports Association

Skeleton

A high-speed, head-first challenge on the ice track.

Skeleton is a high-speed sliding sport ridden head-first and face-down on a small sled. A strong start, a calm line and precise steering all matter on the ice track.

There are no formal RNWSA qualifications for skeleton. Experienced members and athletes share their knowledge to help sustain the sport in the Royal Navy.

More than competing

RNWSA opportunities

Help athletes and events grow, on and off the snow and ice.

RN teams

The RNWSA looks for promising athletes at discipline events, including the RN Snowsports Festival. Strong performances at RN Championship races can lead to selection for Royal Navy teams at the Inter-Service Championships, with outstanding performances potentially opening a route to UK Armed Forces representation.

Instructor pathways

Accredited instructor pathways are available in Alpine, Nordic and Telemark skiing and Snowboarding. These may be supported through existing Royal Navy Sport funding. For bobsleigh, Cresta, luge and skeleton, experienced members share skills and knowledge; speak to the relevant discipline manager or chief instructor about progression.

Festival hill teams

The RN Snowsports Festival race programme welcomes volunteers to learn the roles and responsibilities involved in running races, including technical delegate duties. Alpine, Telemark and Snowboard volunteers can build experience that also applies at civilian races.

Support the association

The RNWSA committee supports the association’s events and development. People of all ranks and abilities are welcome to get involved; enthusiasm for the sport and a willingness to help are what count.
