Royal Navy Snowboard

Royal Navy Winter Sports Association

Snowboard

From first turns to racing and freestyle progression.

Snowboarding provides a development pathway from grassroots participation through to elite athlete level. The annual Snow Sports Festival is a key opportunity to spend time on real snow, while grassroots events run through the season help people progress into competitive riding.

Royal Navy Snowboarding includes parallel slalom, boardercross and slopestyle. These disciplines give Service personnel a supportive setting in which to test physical and mental resilience, develop their skills and build connections across the Naval Service.

The team builds friendships and mentorship across the Naval Service. Some serving personnel first discovered Royal Navy sport through the snowboard community and its social channels.

A route to progress

Whether you are starting out or already race, the RN Snow Sports Festival and seasonal grassroots sessions offer opportunities to learn, train and compete.

More than competing

RNWSA opportunities

Help athletes and events grow, on and off the snow and ice.

RN teams

The RNWSA looks for promising athletes at discipline events, including the RN Snowsports Festival. Strong performances at RN Championship races can lead to selection for Royal Navy teams at the Inter-Service Championships, with outstanding performances potentially opening a route to UK Armed Forces representation.

Instructor pathways

Accredited instructor pathways are available in Alpine, Nordic and Telemark skiing and Snowboarding. These may be supported through existing Royal Navy Sport funding. For bobsleigh, Cresta, luge and skeleton, experienced members share skills and knowledge; speak to the relevant discipline manager or chief instructor about progression.

Festival hill teams

The RN Snowsports Festival race programme welcomes volunteers to learn the roles and responsibilities involved in running races, including technical delegate duties. Alpine, Telemark and Snowboard volunteers can build experience that also applies at civilian races.

Support the association

The RNWSA committee supports the association’s events and development. People of all ranks and abilities are welcome to get involved; enthusiasm for the sport and a willingness to help are what count.
